The Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has been selected the interim Prime Minister for Pakistan after Nawaz Sharif was alleged to disqualified by the Supreme Court over corruption cases. Mr Abassi’s period is expected to be short as Nawaz Sharif has selected his brother Shahbaz Sharif as the successor once he becomes eligible.
The PAK’s ruling party PML-N had named Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother, who is the CM of Punjab Province, as his successor over the weekend. But Shahbaz Sharif catches only a provincial seat, so he must first enter in to parliament by contesting the seat left vacant by his older brother. Also, he will have to resign as MLA of Punjab and a new CM will have been selected.
The party sources said that, “Meanwhile, the PML-N has nominated Mr Abbasi as interim Prime Minister. The 58-year-old supporter of Nawaz Sharif will hold the PM’s office for a period of 45 days and will resign to let Shahbaz Sharif succeed as permanent Prime Minister”. Nawaz Sharif was the 15th Prime Minister in Pakistan’s 70-year history, forcefully half of which was under military rule to be removed before his tenure.
