New Delhi: The Supreme Court said on Tuesday that, “It is virtually impossible to use Aadhaar to track all Indian citizens, the agency that has issued the Unique Identification Number to millions of Indians”. The UIDAI said that, “there were safeguards built into the law and its systems to guarantee that the government could not use Aadhaar for observation even if a court were to permit them”.
The Supreme Court cleared that, it is impossible to use Aadhaar to track all the citizens in India”. The SC also suggested that, “too much was being made of privacy being a fundamental right, Nothing is private in the online era”, the UIDAI said to a 9-Judge constitution bench that is considering whether privacy is a fundamental right of every citizen. If the Supreme Court holds that, it was a fundamental right and it would have allegations for “Aadhaar” and also the agency that issues the numbers UIDAI.
The Aadhar or the UIDAI was first started to issue the numbers in 2009. But because parliament could not pass the law to give legal covers to the UIN. Aadhar agency had to collect all personal information about the residents under executive instructions. The Supreme Court had been hearing petitions that questioned collection of private information from citizens without any legal supporting.
