The Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu, former Union Minister and Senior BJP leader has been elected as the 15th Vice-President of India. Venkaiah Naidu (68) will be chaired the oath of the office by newly elected President Ram Nath Kovind at a function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 11th August 2017. Naidu replaces former Vice-President Hamid Ansari, who retires on 10th August 2017. Mr.Naidu got 516 votes and his opponent, UPA’s candidate Gopala Krishna Gandhi got 244 votes and 11 votes were declared invalid. The total votes are 786-members in the Electoral College.
M Venkaiah Naidu is an Indian politician and the Vice President of India elected candidate from NDA. Earlier, he served as the Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Urban Development and Information and Broadcasting in the PM Narendra Modi Cabinet. He is a famous leader of the BJP. Also he was done as the National President for BJP from 2002 to 2004. Previously, he was the Union Cabinet Minister for Rural Development in the Atal Biharee Vajpayee government.
Mr.Naidu was born in Chavatapalem, Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh. He was completed schooling from V. R. High School, Nellore. Also, he was completed his bachelor’s degree in Politics and Diplomatic studies from V. R. College, Nellore. Afterwards, he gets a bachelor’s degree in law with specialization in International Law from AU College of Law, Visakhapatnam. He was a Swayam Sevak in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and was joined ABVP during his college days. He was elected as the president of the Students Union of colleges affiliated to the AU. He came into spotlight for his top role in the ‘Jai Andhra Movement’ in 1972. While, Kakani Venkata Ratnam led the movement from Vijayawada, and Naidu took active part in the confrontation in Nellore, until it was called off a year later in 1974. Venkaiah Naidu turns into the convener of the anti-corruption Jayaprakash Narayan ‘Chhatra Sangharsh Samiti of Andhra Pradesh and Mr.Naidu take to streets in protest against the emergency and he was imprisoned from 1977 to 80, Mr.Naidu was president of its youth wing.
