Chandigarh: The Hayana BJP Chief’s son Vikas Barala cried today as he was formed in court after his arrest for the attempted kidnapping of a Chandigarh woman last week. As per police reports, he was sent two days police custody. The 23-year-old Vikas, has admitted to the police that, “he chased Varnika Kundu on the night of 04th Aug”. He said to the court that, “the kidnapping charge was just her (Varnika Kundu) ‘fear’, and the total high drama created by the media only”. He added that, “If we wanted to kidnap her, we would have been with the girl”. Barala junior’s lawyer argued that, “Even yesterday they were called for interrogation – this is a media trial and there is pressure”. The police says that there are witness and CCTV footage against the accused, they had been released earlier on bail but now they will face up to seven years jail term.
Ms. Kundu, the daughter of a bureaucrat, had posted on Face book of being hunted for several kilometers by Vikas and hid friend Ashish. The 29-year-old DJ said that, “they blocked her car, hit on her window and even tried to force open her door. The chase was caught on six CCTVs, the footage showing a white SUV racing behind Ms. Kundu’s black vehicle”. After Ms. Kundu’s Face book post went viral and creates sensation in public anger, the police were blamed of trying to reduce the case under pressure from the state’s ruling BJP. Five days after the incident, on Wednesday, the two were arrested again and charged with attempted kidnapping, which does not allow bail.
