The Indian External Affairs Minister ‘Sushma Swaraj’ goes away for Kathmandu to attend the 15th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting held on 10th to 11th Aug 2017. The two-day visit in BIMSTEC, Foreign Ministers of “the Bay of Bengal plan for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation” (BIMSTEC) countries will evaluate the progress in identified 14 areas of cooperation and discuss the ways to speed up cooperation. The BIMSTEC is an International Organization involving a group of countries in South Asia and South East Asia. The Countries are Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan, and Nepal.
The BIMSTEC states are among the countries dependent on the Bay of Bengal. It headquartered at Dhaka, Bangladesh and the headquarter was opened by Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina on 13th September 2014. The key objective of BIMSTEC is technical and economic collaboration with South Asian and south east Asian countries along the coast of the Bay of Bengal. This has been included Commerce, Investment, Technology, Tourism, HRD, Agriculture, Fisheries, Transport and Communication, Textiles, Leather etc”.
