The Association of Democratic Rights has reviled some of the interesting facts that huge number of donations to political parties came from unknown sources over past four years from 2012-16, it was nearly of 3 thousand donations was made without having proper details like (PAN) or address proof, all the political parties was sent a notice that to submit details of donors who have made donations above 20 thousands during financial year to election commission every year.
Since 2012-16 nearly 1,933 donations was made and amounting to Rs. 384 crore was done without having any details like PAN (Permanent Account Number) , ID proof. In the same period, 1,546 donations, amounting to Rs. 355 cr, was done without the donor’s address, ADR said political parties receive most of their income from unknown sources as a donations during elections in order to avoid tax and to make for turning black money to white, Between 2012-16, corporate houses donated Rs. 956.77 crore to five national parties like BJP, Congress, NCP, CPI and CPM, constituting 89 per cent of the total contribution from known sources, among them BJP has got the most of the donations Rs 705.81 crore from corporate donors, congress stood a poor second with Rs.198 crore, CPI and CPI-M have received the lowest total of corporate donations as 4 per cent , 17 per cent.
The ADR said that real estate industry was the biggest donor, manufacturing sector was the second biggest donor to political parties, In the last decade, 83 % of Congress’s income, amounting to Rs. 3,323.39 crore, and 65 % of BJP’s income, amounting to Rs. 2,125.91 crore, had come from unknown sources, Under the Income Tax Act, political parties don’t have to pay income tax if they accept donations exceeds Rs.20 thousand or more in cheque, if it is less than the 20 thousand they have to submit the donors details
