New Delhi: The Railway minister Suresh prabhu met prime Minister Narendra Modi and spoke today in the cabinet meeting morning to quit his post , after two train derailments in five days, Back-to-back accidents in less than a week have forced opposition calls for his resignation, Since last year, there have been 186 deaths in train derailments, which is the highest in 10 years,This year, there have been 62 incidents and tweeted that he had taken “full moral responsibility”, hinting that he had offered to quit. The Prime Minister, he said, had asked him to “wait”.
The Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said PM Modi would take a decision “on whatever request Suresh Prabhu has made”, Accountability is a good system, Mr Prabhu said he was extremely pained and anguished by the accidents. “In less than three years as Minister, I have devoted my blood and sweat for the betterment of the Railways,” he said in one, adding that he had tried to overcome “decades of neglect” through systemic reforms, after his tweets came hours after Railway Board chairman AK Mittal resigned, due to some “personal reasons”.
