New Delhi: The Supreme court declared the notice given by the Government today in the court that Aadhaar details will have to be furnished to benefit from any welfare schemes till the end of the year, extending the original deadline of September 30 to December 31st for the convenience of people to link their 12 digit unique Aadhaar number Whether the state can link Aadhaar a 12-digit unique number compulsorily which was assigned to every Indian to receive benefits from the government various programs and all financial transactions has been challenge in the Supreme Court with the petitioner alleging that it violates the right to privacy, Last week a rare nine-judge bench ruled against the government to declare that privacy is a fundamental right.
There will be a final judgments in November to decide on whether the government’s linking of Aadhaar to tax returns, direct cash transfers to beneficiaries of welfare schemes, bank loans go against that fundamental right, The government has said that with reasonable limits that Aadhaar is a secure form of digital identification for citizens which can be used for government services as reformation welfare advantage payments and sinking expenditure, The Aadhaar data base has already recorded the biometrics of more than a billion Indians. The government has argued that Aadhaar information should be kept carefully without getting reviled; Campaigners against it say it allows the states’ unqualified powers of surveillance.
