Kolkata: The Virat Kohli’s team India defeated Australia by 50 runs in the second ODI on Thursday, due to a sensational hat-trick from Kuldeep Yadav. After making the decision to bat, India soon dismissed Rohit Sharma, but Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane put the side ahead and dismissed for 252.
Both Kohli (92) and Rahane (55) were dismissed during the innings, in the former, their 31st ODI century was eight short ends. For Australian bowlers, Nathan-Coulter-Nile and Ken Richardson took three wickets, while Pat Cummins and Ashton Agar picked each one.
In response, Australia did not face defeat in the inaugural opening match of openers Hilton Cartwright and David Warner. However, Captain Steve Smith scored 59 in his 100th ODI and hoped for the audience. Marcus Stoinis also joined the party by scoring his first half-century, but on Deccan’s final tour for Bhuvneshwar, the delegation rejected Australia for the match. With this result, Virat Kohli’s men have maintained the top spot in the ODI rankings, including three ODIs.
Australia will get one last chance to move forward in this series when both teams point to Indore for the third ODI on Sunday.
