New Delhi: A two-foot long monitor lizard was found in the Delhi Secretariat’s campus, which caused a stir in the center of the city’s government, a wildlife NGO said today.
The Reptiles, a non-toxic species, got stuck in a turnstile (automatic gate) in the lobby area and were later saved, wildlife SOS said.
But, the vast complex of the secretariat is no stranger to such unusual visitors. “Last year, we saved 3.5 feet long cobra from the Secretariat,” a member of the team said, who had saved the lizard on Thursday.
The Kartik Satyanarayana, co-founder, Wildlife SOS said, “Monitor lizard is non-toxic and there is no threat to humans. As a result of these forest deforestation and expansion of human habitat, In search of food and shelter, it is forced to roam from the natural habitat. “They play an important role in the ecosystem, but they are often killed for their flesh and body parts because of beliefs in the wrong way,” he said.
The NGO said that after being kept under surveillance for a few hours, the lizard was released back to its natural habitat.
