Kanpur: A college student, arrested last year for the alleged murder of an 11-year-old boy, succeeded in proving his innocence and got acquitted with the help of Google. The Jai Pratap Singh, alias Mohit, was discharged by the Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajat Singh Jain on Thursday, who also said that there was no doubt about the role of the police in this case. The judge wrote to the Director General of Police, demanding action against investigator Hari Shankar Mishra.
The son of a warrant officer of the Indian Air Force, The Kanpur Police had arrested for the murder of Rehan, who disappeared on August 20, 2016 at around 6.30. After two hours, Rehan’s body was found with slit of the throat. After proof of material presented by the prosecution, Jai was acquitted of not supporting the claims made by the police, and the giant Google on the Internet had indicated that Jay’s IP address was used at the time of the murder. It shows that he was not on the scene of crime.
According to Jay, he was working online on animation design at the time of the 11-year-old murder. Their parents visited their son’s place, time of online work, and visited the websites he visited. They also collected his online history from Google and presented it in the court to protect their son.
According to Google reports, Jay’s IP address was used from 4 to 11 o’clock during which he saw many websites. The police claimed that the murder took place around 6 pm. The police had arrested Jai on August 26, but his arrest was made on August 30. The Jai Pratap’s defense counsel claimed that in this case he was wrongly implicated by the sub-inspector, who had previously filed a false case against his father Bhagwan Singh and demanded the money to close it the complaint was lodged against the sub-inspector in the District Magistrate and the Vigilance Department had made an inquiry in this matter. The SI presented a final report in the false case and closed it. However, he had warned Bhagwan of consequences. When SI was involved in the investigation team of murder, he allegedly fabricated a case against Jai, the lawyer claimed.
