Bangalore: The Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday asked the party leaders to suppress the indiscipline in several district units under the strategy of preparing for assembly elections next year.
The Party general secretary in-charge of Karnataka K. C. Venugopal, senior leaders M. Mallikarjun Kharge and M. Veerappa Moily, KPCC president Dr. G. Parameshwar and working presidents Dinesh Gundu Rao, CM Siddaramaiah, and S. R. Patil during the two-hour long meeting, Rahul Gandhi talked about the need for a picture of unity in the entire state and therefore emphasized the need to tackle these leaders with indiscipline in 6-7 districts so that they can ensure good performance in the elections. Apart from this, he asked the leaders to take the prospective candidates in action so that instead of waiting for the announcement of the date of the meeting, address meetings to join voters and extend the other activities. Such candidates should highlight the achievements of the state government in the last four and a half years and the party workers should change the gear and immediately include in the voting process.
Meanwhile, party sources said that most of the legislators will be fielded by the party and hence they should stop immediately to create a positive impact on the Congress government. Immediately after the meeting, the KPCC President Dr Parameshwar told the media that the election will be done under the leadership of Mr. Siddaramaiah. “How should the party face elections, what should be the strategy – all this was discussed in the meeting.” Some suggestions have also been given, “he said, adding that the KPCC had updated the preparations for the state unit for elections and in Karnataka Sharing information on the work done by both the party and state government.
On the issue of delays in the distribution of tickets to the candidates, he said, “We discussed this in the meeting. This is part of our strategy. We do it according to our convenience,” he said.
The Dr Parameshwar rejected differences with the Chief Minister two months later; a common meeting will be convened to discuss the election strategy. Party workers will distribute handbooks on the achievement of Congress, government and distribute them in about 1.10 Crore households.
