Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Thursday observed a petition in connection with the inter-religious marriage of Kannur-native Shruti and Anees Hammad, The High Court observed “All love marriages should not be treated as ‘love-jihad’.
The High Court court further said that this type of marriage should be encouraged, as there is no limits for love. The court, while allowing Sruthi to accompany her husband, said that the marriage is “valid” in the form of marriage.
It was alleged that Shruti was abducted by Anees Hameed, who forcibly converted her to Islam and married her under religious customs. On October 10, while hearing Hudiya’s case, the High Court gave the same ruling that ‘all inter-religious marriages cannot be called love jihad’.
Earlier on October 7, the Kerala government had told the Supreme Court that investigation of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in this case is not necessary as the state police is enough to complete this investigation. In an affidavit, the state government told the Supreme Court that the state police is capable enough to investigate such crimes.
