Kolkata: The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, while addressing the rise of deaths due to vector-borne diseases in the state, said that if they fail to stop the spread of dengue, her government will take strong action against civic bodies. She also said that civic authorities had been allocated adequate funds for the welfare of the people and if they failed to implement it, they would be sacked.
I have asked civic bodies to be cautious. If I find the authority of a municipality which is not making enough efforts, then we will take action, the Chief Minister said.
In some areas of North 24 Parganas, people – the most densely populated districts in the country – such as Bongaon, Dumdum, Bidhannagar, Bhangar, and Degangahave had been under the grip of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito the widespread fever due to mosquito bites. The People are also suffering in other districts like Malda and Murshidabad.
The State Health Minister Mamta Banerjee has claimed that 13 patients were killed in government hospitals due to dengue.
That, in private hospitals and nursing homes, 27 people have been allegedly died of dengue, we are investigating those figures, she said.
The Banerjee also criticized a section of the media for publishing incorrect information supplied without verification by some private health care units. We have already canceled the license of three pathological laboratories for the wrong report, she said.
Comparing the deaths of dengue in other states, she said, “Gujarat is a small state compared to Bengal, but 435 people lost their lives there.” These figures have been updated a few days ago. The figure is 695 for Maharashtra, 230 for Rajasthan, 165 for Uttar Pradesh, 141 for Madhya Pradesh, 80 for Assam, 83 for Odisha, and even Kerala has much less states than Bengal Where 111 people have died.
The West Bengal has witnessed the highest number of dengue deaths this year, while till the end of August it was 22.
The Mamta also slammed the opposition parties of the state for indulging in “small politicization” and said, “When I was in opposition, we used to organize a camp for awareness of deadly malaria.”
