Bhopal: The Congress won the bypoll of Chitrakoot assembly in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday; the candidate Nilanu Chaturvedi is defeating his nearest BJP rival Shankar Dayal Tripathi by a margin of 14,133 votes. The Chaturvedi got 66,810 votes, while Tripathi got 52,677 votes, returning officer AP Dwivedi said.
That, Around 400 km from Bhopal, the strict security in Satna district was started at around 8 o’clock in the wake of voting in the by-election on 9th November.
After the death of Congress MLA Prem Singh (65), the 65 percent voting was registered in the above polling.
In the elections of 1998, 2003 and 2013, Singh won the assembly constituency from the border of Uttar Pradesh. However, in the 2008 elections, he had lost the seat to BJP’s Surendra Singh Gaharwar.
Although 12 candidates had contested the by-election, though there was a fight between Chaturvedi and Tripathi.
