Ahmedabad: The Patidar leader Hardik Patel, convener of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS), announced his support for Congress for the coming Gujarat assembly elections. Mr. Patel said that Congress, after coming to power in the state, has agreed to provide reservation for the caste community under a special category.
While addressing a press conference in Ahmedabad on the issue of Patel reservation, Mr. Patel said, “According to the formula, without touching 49 percent quota (now available in the state) for scheduled tribe, scheduled caste and other backward classes, Congress decided to provide quotas for the communities not benefited from the reservation so far under Article 31 (c) and Article 46 of the Constitution.
That, commenting on the forthcoming elections, Patel said, “Patidars have been victimized by them, so it is important to fight against BJP.” He further clarified that PAAS never ‘asked for any ticket’ and also, there was no conflict within PAAS
