Itanagar: The Students of the girls’ school in Arunachal Pradesh were allegedly compelled to undress as a punishment by three teachers for writing vulgar words against the head teacher for alcohol.
The Police said that the 88 students of class VI and VII of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Papum Para district, was subjected to abusive treatment on November 23.
Though, the matter came to light on 27th November when the victims contacted the All Sagalee Students Union (ASSU), after which an FIR was lodged with the local police.
According to the complaint, two assistant teachers and one junior teacher forced 88 students to undress in front of other students after recovery of a piece of paper with vulgar words about the head teacher and a girl student.
Papum Pare Police Superintendent Tumme Amo confirmed that the ASUU’s filing of the FIR. He said that the matter has been referred to the Women Police Station in Itanagar.
The Women police officer of the police station said that the victims and their parents along with the teachers will be questioned before registering a case, Amo said.
A team of all Papum Pare District Students Union (APPDSU) had met students and teachers yesterday and found that an unknown student had used vulgar words in a piece of paper, in which the head teacher and a girl named after the student was noted. APDPU said.
The teachers demanded explanation from all the 88 students of class VI and VII, who was later made to undress before other students for indiscriminate punishment. APPDSU president Nabam Tado said, before giving punishment the school officials did not talk to the parents.
The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has condemned the incident and said that such “heinous acts” by teachers can affect the students.
The Tempering with the dignity of a child is against the constitution, along with the law,” it said in a statement. To give discipline to a student, the teacher has an attitude, character, responsibility and commitment. The Definition of a student is certainly not a corrective remedy, such punishment is a total violation of child rights, and this may possibly increase the risk of child abuse, “the party said.
