New Delhi: The Interpol has canceled the red corner notice of president and preacher of the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), Zakir Naik, which is being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the charge of terrorism and money laundering.
A spokesman for Naik said, “Interpol has canceled the red corner notice on the Naik and has instructed his worldwide offices to remove all files on the instructions, they have cited political and religious bias for other reasons.”
The NIA did not accept the request for red corner notice against the Naik because Interpol had not filed the charge sheet when the request was submitted. Now, NIA will present a new request for Interpol because the charge sheet has already been filed with the concerned NIA Court in Mumbai.
The Islamic preacher has to face the allegations of terrorist activities, hate speech and money laundering among youth.
The Naik fled from India after some alleged terrorists involved in the Dhaka Café attack claimed that they were inspired by his speeches.
Last year, the Mumbai branch of the National Investigation Agency filed a case against Naik under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Illegal Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) when the Union Home Ministry had declared his Mumbai-based IRF as an illegal organization.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) last month had said that interdepartmental consultation is continuing for extradition of Nike from Malaysia.
