Unnao: The district administration suspended the Chief Medical Officer on Tuesday as the report has come out that 32 cataract patients were operated in torch light to demand stable electricity supply at the Government facility in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh.
While taking a serious note of the matter, the Uttar Pradesh government took immediate action and suspended CMO Rajendra Prasad,” Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh said. He said that the Community Health Center (CHC) in-charge at in Nawabganj has also been removed. The State Health Department has sought a report on the entire episode.
The visuals went viral on social media on Monday, 32 cataract operations were conducted in torch light in the CHC at Nawabganj on Monday, because there was no electricity or power back-up.
The CMO had earlier said that the acting District Magistrate has ordered an inquiry into the matter and the institution handed over to this task can be blacklisted, if found guilty. In the meantime, some relatives of patients complained that they were not given any bed after the procedure and despite the extreme cold weather they were made to lie down on the floor.
