Hyderabad: The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi has dismissed the claim of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday that he has helped Muslim women for visit Haj without ‘Mahram’.
The Hyderabad MP said that the Haj officers of Saudi Arabia had applied for several years, allowing women over 45 years of age to travel with one group to perform Hajj without ‘Mahram’. The Owaisi said that the women over 45 years of age from Indonesia, Malaysia and many other counties had performed Haj under this Saudi regulation. The ‘Mehram’ is a male relative of a woman with whom she is permanently forbidden to marry as per Islam.
Modi had said on Sunday in his “Mann Ki Baat” speech that his government has lifted the ban so that Muslim women can only make Hajj in the company of ‘Maharam’. He had said that for decades the injustice was done to women. That it has become the habit of prime minister for claiming credit for everything, if Saudi women are allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia tomorrow, he will claim credit for it.”
The Owaisi said that if Modi had such concern for Muslim women, then he should give justice to Zakari Jafri, widow of former MP Ehsan Jafri, who was killed in the 2002 Gujarat riots. He said, “It is all dexterity.” If Modi is really worried about Muslim women, he should give 7 percent reservation for them in education, he has a two-thirds majority in the parliament and he has a bill bulldoz can do”
That, on passing the bill in Lok Sabha over Triple Talaq Owaisi said that if it has become a law, then it will be the biggest injustice to Muslim women. He further argued that since marriage in Islam was a civil contract, there can be no penal provision. He also said that on this issue the Supreme Court did not ask its order to bring a criminal law to the government.
“The government is saying that Muslim countries have banned Triple Talaq but the fact is that there is no punishable provision in any Muslim country.” The AIMIM Chief alleged that the real aim of the government was to remove all types of Talaq and to snatch Sharia from the Muslims. The Owaisi said that abandonment married women was a bigger problem than divorce.\The Abandonment rates are double the rate of divorce, in which 24 lakh women have been abandoned and 20 lakh Hindu women, two lakh Muslims and 90,000 Christian women have been included in it, The Married women should get the right to live with their husbands whether they are in Gujarat or in Delhi”.
