New Delhi: India on Wednesday sought UK’s help in the extradition of liquor baron Vijay Mallya and to face the law at home in the case of fraud and money laundering around Rs 9,000 crore.
That, during a bilateral meeting with the British Minister for Security and Economic Offenses, Home Minister Karen Rijiju was briefed about the ongoing matter in the Westminster Magistrates’ Court, during the talks, the minister demanded Britain’s assistance in the initial extradition of the fugitive industrialist, the official secret of the meeting said.
“The bilateral meeting was useful with the UK Minister Mr. Ben Wallace for security and economic offenses. We discussed about extradition of persons demanded by cyber security, fundamentalists, India and Britain, and issues of cooperation in sharing information,” said Rijiju Tweeted after the meeting.
The official said that Home Minister Karen Rijuju has pushed for the assistance of Britain in the extradition of 13 people, including liquor baron Vijay Mallya, former IPL chairman Lalit Modi and alleged cricket bookie Sanjiv Kapur. The India sought legal assistance to prosecute 16 other alleged criminals.
The Rijiju also told his counterpart that the British sector should not allow Kashmiri and Khalistani separatists to use for anti-India activities, the official said.
