New Delhi: The government has ended the decision to issue a separate passport with an orange jacket to the passport holders of the ECR (Emigration Check Required). The current process of printing of the last page of the passport will also continue, which means that the passport will continue as a valid residential proof.
The Ministry of External Affairs (Foreign Affairs) has said in a statement: “After extensive discussions with various stakeholders, the Ministry of External Affairs has decided to continue the current process of printing the last page of the passport and also not to issuing separate passports with the orange Color jacket for ECR passport holders.”
The Ministry of External Affairs received many personal and collective representations requesting to reconsider both of these decisions.
In the meeting chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the review of these representations about the decisions made by the Ministry of External Affairs on both these issues was reviewed. Minister of State for External Affairs Gen VK Singh was also present in the meeting.
