Dindigul: A 42-year-old man sustained injuries when a bull gored him in a ‘Jallikattu’ ceremony held in Dindigul on Wednesday and 16 other persons injured. The deceased Paul Raj, was taken to a government hospital, but died without medical treatment.
At the annual bull-taming event organized under the aegis of Punitha Sebastian Church in Pugayilapatti, about 20 kilometers away from Dindigul, the participation of 200 bulls, 300 contestants and hundreds of spectators was witnessed.
When Jallikuttu resumed in Tamil Nadu after the Pongal festival since January 2017, a bill adopted in the state assembly, about 27 deaths-is still included in it – according to estimation, the information has been given so far. The Supreme Court had banned Jallikuttu in May 2014, in which the game was stopped so that the violation of the Cruelty Prevention Act could be violated.
In January 2017, the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly passed an amendment bill in place of an Ordinance to run the bull-taming game unanimously.
