Hyderabad: The Continuing his official visits to India, His Highness the Aga Khan, Imam (spiritual leader) of the Shia Ismaili Muslims, and founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), met with Honourable E.S.L. Narasimhan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad.
His Highness thanked the Government for its continuous support towards the endeavours of the Aga Khan Development Network in the region, noting that the projects played a critical role in improving the quality of life of all citizens.
The Aga Khan described to the Governor the AKDN’s emphasis on quality in the provision of education and the importance of assuring a global standard in its educational institutions. The Governor commended the good work of the AKDN in the fields of education and healthcare and the holistic approach to bringing about change in quality of life.
The Hon’ble Governor accredited His-Highness heritage-sites through the protection and restoration work at the Quli Qutub Shahi Tombs.
The two leaders also discussed the consequent positive economic impact through employment creation, expert and artisanal skills enhancement and increased tourism, and the social impact through creation of public leisure space for reflection and the enjoyment of nature.
Later in the day, the Aga Khan met with Mohammed Mahmood Ali, Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana, who called on him at his hotel.
The Deputy Chief Minister expressed gratitude for the expertise and experience that the Aga Khan Development Network had brought to bear in its initiatives in culture and education in Telangana and assured the Aga Khan of the Government’s continued support and facilitation.
His Highness the Aga Khan will depart for Mumbai tomorrow, 28 February, on the final leg of his 10-day official visit to India. This year, the Aga Khan is visiting numerous countries around the world to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of his leadership as Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims.
