New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday made it clear that the Aadhaar is not mandatory for the students appearing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Examination is not mandatory and they can produce other means of identification such as Ration Card, Voter Identity Card, Driving License, Passport and Bank Passbook.
The Five Judges Constitution Bench including Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice A k Sikri, A.M. Khanwilkar, D.Y. Chandrachud and Ashok Bhushan has passed the order after it was brought to the notice of the court that the CBSE was insisting on the production of Aadhaar card for students to appear in the Neet and it would deprive many of the students for taking exams.
The K.K.Venugopal Attorney General informs the court that the government has not given any direction to the CBSE to insist Aadhar Card because the students can produce any other identity Card. That the High Court of Gujarat had dismissed the petition on 27th February and the appeal is in the Supreme Court challenges the order of the Gujarat High Court.
