Theni: A Massive fire broke out in Theni On Sunday evening, in which at least 20 students were trapped, who had trekking. While the government estimates that at least 20 students are stuck, local reporters say that at least 55 students have gone on a trek.
That there was a fire on Sunday evening in Kurangani forest near the Theni Range. It is feared that the people who had gathered in the range to climb the mountain have been trapped in the fire. A student has feared died.
The Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman instructed the Indian Air Force to assist in the rescue of the students. The Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam also reached the spot.
The District Collector told Defense Minister Nirmala Sitharaman that 10 to 15 students have been rescued and brought down from the hillside.
That, several teams, including fire service, police and defense forces, has been pressed into service for the rescue operation.
