Ramgarh: A fast track court in Ramgarh on Wednesday sentenced Eleven (11) people, including a BJP leader for life imprisonment for lynching a meat trader in June last year over the doubt that he was carrying beef in his car.
The Judge Om Prakash found them guilty on 16th March under the Indian Penal Code 147 (riot), 148 (riot with lethal weapons), 149 (unlawful assembly), 435 (mischief by fire or explosive material) and 302 (murder). The sentence was pronounced on Wednesday.
That, On 29 June 2017 on the suspicion that the man was carrying beef in his car; a group of people had lynched a 40-year-old Alimuddin Ansari in Bazaar Tand locality of Ramgarh town.
The prosecutor’s lawyer had prayed for the death penalty in which the description of the crime was “Rarest of Rare” case and it was later claimed that the punishment was first in the country involving cow vigilantes.
The Ansari’s widow Mariyam Khatoon lodged a complaint against 17 persons and a charge sheet was filed against 12 persons on September 17, the BJP District media in-charge Nityanand Mahto is among 11 accused persons.
