New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday granted bail to Karti Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the IANX Media Money Laundering case. The Karti has been granted bail on bail of Rs. 10 lakh and he cannot go out of the country, further he cannot influence witnesses or close bank accounts.
The Supreme Court had extended till March 26 last week, the interim relief to Chidambaram by the Delhi High Court which was linked to the arrest in the money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Karti was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Chennai airport on February 28.
In this case, the name of Karti had emerged in the case that was related to the approved Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) to receive funds by INX Media in 2007, when his father and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram during the previous UPA government was the Union Finance Minister.
Following relief in the INX media case, Chidambaram has filed an anticipatory bail petition in connection with the approval of FIPB against CBI and ED on Friday, which has been given to M / S Global Communications Holding Services Limited in the case of Aircel Maxis.
