The cattle kill reported on the morning of 28th March in Sirpur Range of Kagaznagar Forest Division and the forest department had installed camera traps and got very rare images of 2 leopards sharing a kill.
That, Generally Leopards are solitary and territorial in nature. They hunt alone and prefers small prey which can be lifted on to a tree or hide outs. In this case there was a huge cattle killed and shared by two adult Leopards. Group hunting or sharing of kill is very rare in leopards, unless they are siblings or mating pair or mother and cubs. Wildlife behavior is very interesting and unpredictable.and there is always exceptions to general behavior, said A.Narasimha Reddy, Divisional Forest Officer Kagaznagar, who holds a P.G.Diploma in Wildlife Management from Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun. It may recall that recently 3 leopards captured at a time in a single frame for camera traps in kagaznagar division.
After receiving the information by district forest officials PCCF & HoFF P.k. Jha directed to continuously monitor the kill site and the compensation for cattle kill will be immediately processed and compensation will be paid to the owner of the cattle by tomorrow.
