New Delhi: The Social media giant Facebook said on Thursday that 5.62 Lakh people in India are “potentially affected” by the global data leak episode related to UK-based Cambridge analytics. The Facebook has more than 20 Crore users in the country and last month the Indian government issued notice to both Facebook and Analyst on the issue of data breaches. The Data mining firm Analytica has accused the personal information of millions of Facebook users for allegedly influencing elections in many countries. The Facebook acknowledged on Wednesday that data on approximately 87 million people – mostly in the US – may be improperly shared with Cambridge Analytica
A Facebook spokesman said that 335 people in India were directly affected by app installation, while 562,120 people were potentially affected as friends of those users. It produces 562,455 potential affected people in India, which is 0.6 percent of the global number of potentially affected people,” said a Facebook spokesman.
The company said that it is investigating a specific number of people about which information was provided with them in India. In the last few days, a global outcry has been noticed due to violations of user data on Facebook, allowing the company to issue public apology. The Facebook’s Data breach Scandal raised thunder in India last month with IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad warning the firm of stringent action for any attempt to influence the elections through data theft and threatening to summon Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
