The Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) team of AICRP (Fruits) on mango and guava scheme has visited the Fruit Research Station, Sangareddy on 6-4-2018 to review the AICRP Research work for the period 2012-17. The QRT team comprised of Dr. K.L. Chadha, Chairman, Former DDG (Hort. Sci.) ICAR & President, HIS, Dr. B.M.C. Reddy Former VC, Dr.YSRHU, Dr. V.S. Thakur, Former VC, YSPUHF, Dr. Satyabrata Maiti, Former Director, ICAR-DMAPR, Dr. H. K. Senapati, Ex-Dean, PGF cum DRI, OUAT, Dr. D. S. Khurdiya, Former HOD, PHT, IARI, Dr. Prakash Patil Project Coordinator (Fruits) and secretary, QRT.
The C. Parthasarathi, APC and Vice Chancellor of SKLTSHU have accompanied the team visit to FRS, Sangareddy. The team has thoroughly reviewed the AICRP research programmes of the past 5 years and also the ongoing research programmes. The team was impressed by the rejuvenation technology of mango at FRS, Sangareddy. Dr. K.L. Chadha, Chairman, QRT has expressed satisfaction the way FRS, Sangareddy is taking the technology to the mango farmers of Telangana and reiterated that rejuvenation of mango should be done when ever mango yield are reducing in farmer’s field also.
The C. Parthasarathi, APC has intervened that rejuvenation of mango is being carried out as part of government subsidy programme in Khammam and Warangal districts where the old and senile orchards of mango are more prevalent.
The Station has also demonstrated the mechanical tree pruner and boom sprayer for high density orchard to the QRT. Incidentally, the equipment was sponsored by the National Horticulture Board for testing the feasibility and usage of the equipment in farmer’s field. Dr. K.L. Chadha has suggested that the equipment may be used in farmer’s field and conduct feasibility studies and expressed happiness on the way the Fruit Research Station, Sangareddy is taking forward the technology to the farming community.
Later, the QRT team visited meadow orcharding (High density plantation) of guava and Jamun plantation and expressed satisfaction on the way the research plots are being maintained at FRS, Sangareddy.
The team has appreciated the way the 477 mango germplasm is being maintained at the station and suggested to publish the mango descriptors information as early as possible so as to make good use of this information by farmers, researcher and academicians.
The QRT team also visited photo exhibition organized by Principal Scientist (Hort) and Head displaying the technologies developed by the station.
The Team has critically reviewed all the research programmes of the station and congratulated the staff for their excellent work.
Later in the day Dr.K.L.Chadha and C. Parthasarathi has interacted and discussed upon various issues like horticulture food processing policy, doubling the farmer’s income. C. Parthasarathi has explained the policies of the Telangana government to K.L Chadha for which he has suggested to initiate captive cultivation, introduction of more fruit crops to Telangana State and introduction and testing of more fruit varieties from IIHR, Bengaluru and study their suitability in Telangana conditions.
Overall, the team has congratulated, principal Scientist (Hort.) and Head and other University Officers like DR. Ravinder Reddy, Registrar, Dr. Vijaya, Director of Research for their excellent coordination and work at Fruit Research Station, Sangareddy.
