The Dr. V. Praveen Rao, Vice Chancellor of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) has today announced to media about the proposed Seed Mela on 24th May 2018 at the University Premises in Rajedranagar, here on Monday. while briefing the media he told that, About 15 seed stalls of local research institutes of Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) such as Indian Institute of Oil Seed Research (IIOR), Indian Institute of Rice Research (IIRR), Indian Institute of Millet Research (IIMR) etc., would participate in the seed mela along with PJTSAU and Telangana State Seed Development Corporation (TSSDC) & Telangana State Seed and Organic Certification Agency (TSSOCA). The Agricultural Minister of Telangana State Pocharam Srinivas Reddy will inaugurate the Seed Mela.
This is the first time to organize such a large scale conglomeration of State Government Agencies, Agricultural University and ICAR institutes to come under one umbrella said the VC. The main aim to organize the Mega Seed Mela under one roof is to provide quality seed on right time to the farmers and to enhance the production and productivity of the various crops grown in Telangana State said the VC. In this seed mela about 900quintals of paddy seed, 200 to 300 quintals of Maize, Sorghum, Pulses, Fodder seed and about 400quintals of oil seeds are made available to sale to the farmers in this mela. And also university has made available the package of practices and management practices about various crops were also provided to the farmers in addition to the quality seed. Further, Vice chancellor said that, on the same day a seed mela cum sales of seeds will be organized in all the three Regional Agricultural Research Stations (RARS) of Northern Telangana Zone at Jagitial, Central Telangana Zone at Warangal and Southern Telangana Zone at Palem of Nagarkurnool district. Along with major crop seeds fodder seed and green manure seeds were also put on sale said the VC. Dr. Rao says that, this effort is part of the doubling of farmer’s income by providing quality seed and best management practices to reduce the crop failures.
