In the month of May, Minister KT Rama Rao received a tweet from Nidhi Reddy. In her tweet, Nidhi requested Minister KT Rama Rao to release the book written by her grandfather Mitta Yadava Reddy, a freedom fighter and a retired Professor from Osmania University.
Within few Minutes, Rama Rao responded to her tweet saying, “Absolutely. Least I can do for a hero like your grandfather.”
Nidhi Reddy never expected such a quick response. She did not believe what has happened and was on cloud nine, she later confessed.
In another response, Nidhi was asked to send in the details to Minister KT Rama Rao’s office.
Present day: Today, (June 17, 2018) Minister KT Rama Rao’s convoy stopped in front of the residence of Mitta Yadava Reddy, in Habsiguda. Minister Rama Rao was accompanied by Energy Minister Jagdish Reddy and Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan.
Mitta Yadava Reddy, a freedom fighter is now 88 years old and is bedridden. Minister Rama Rao walked into his house and sat beside him and talked affectionately. Minister personally extended his birthday wishes to the octogenarian and presented him with a memento. Minister also launched the book ‘My Memoirs’ written by Mitta Yadava Reddy.
Mr. Reddy celebrated his birthday by cutting a cake in the presence of his family members and Minister Rama Rao. He shed happy tears and told the minister that he was very happy to see him at his residence.
In an extended talk with the Minister, Mr. Reddy mentioned his love for the state of Telangana and how he fought during the freedom struggle. He expressed his happiness over CM K Chandrashekar Rao’s governance in the state. He appreciated Minister Rama Rao for his commendable work in IT and Industries departments.
Minister Rama Rao replied, “The words from the freedom fighter are an encouragement to the future generations. The freedom we enjoy today is because of the struggles of great freedom fighters like Mitta Yadava Reddy.”
Though the program was on schedule to June 19, 2018, Minister Rama Rao wanted to make the freedom fighter’s birthday special. He preponed the visit to June 17, 2018, which is his birthday.
The entire family came from various parts of the country to Hyderabad and was a part of the birthday celebrations and the book launch.
Mitta Yadav Reddy :
Mitta Yadav Reddy was born on June 17, 1930, in a remote village called Velishala, located on the borders of Jangaon and Suryapet talukas. He actively participated in Indian freedom movement during 1945-47. He was arrested and kept in jail for fighting against the Nizam.
In 1948 in Tatikonda he faced a fierce gun battle against razakars and Nizam police. Since the police and razakars outnumbered Mr. Reddy’s group, their attempts failed and were arrested later and kept in jail as a political prisoner. He was tortured in inhuman ways to bring out the information about his peer group members.
He was released out of jail in 1951 and worked in election campaigning for PDF leader Dharmabiksham. He resumed his studies after a long gap and went on to complete MA and Ph.D. in Economics. He took up the professorship at Osmania University and retired as Dean of Social Sciences from the same University. He has two sons and a daughter.
