Hyderabad: The 26th Annual Workshop of All India Network Project (AINP) on Pesticides Residues has been held at the Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) here on Friday. The workshop was jointly organized by PJTSAU and Indian Council For Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi at the university auditorium in Rajendranagar. Dr. P K Chakravarthy, Assistant Director General (Crop Protection& Bio safety) ICAR has consented as chief guest and formerly inaugurated the workshop, later he spoke on this occasion. Dr. Chakravarthy urged the scientists of various centers under AINP to redefine the mandate of the methods and detection procedures to tackle with latest challenges and opportunities arose in the field. He also stated that, there is a need to awake the farmers on judicious use of the fertilizers and pesticides on crops and reduce the costs for the pesticides. Further he suggested there is a need to inculcate the safe usage of pesticides and good agricultural practices among the farmers. He says that, the scientists should work on to develop the latest modern processing methods of food produce and also develop advanced washing methods after harvesting of the agriculture and horticultural produce. Dr Chakravarthy emphasized the need of new detection methods for identifying the pesticides residues in food products to gain the international market for Indian agricultural produce.
The Director of Research, PJTSAU Dr Jagadeeshwar has highlighted the need of effective regulating mechanism to stop the indiscriminate use of pesticides on various crops. He also suggested that there should be uniform protocols to detect the pesticides residues.
Dr. KK Sharma, National Director, AINP Pesticides Residues has given the overview of the project through power point presentation. That Several publications brought out by various centers of AINP Pesticides Residues were released by the guests on this occasion. Dr. Anitha, Principal scientist of pesticides residues project in PJTSAU has highlighted the research activities of the Hyderabad center.
