The Honourable Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has instructed the concerned officials that “ KantiVeluguprogramme” aimed at conducting eye tests for all the people in the State should be launched on August 15, 2018 at 2 PM all over the State. The CM said, that, he himself would launch the programme in one of the villages in Gajwel constituency and would also request the Governor to launch it somewhere in the state of his choice. The CM said, that, the programme should be launched simultaneously all over the State the same day and Ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs and all elected representatives should be requested to participate in the programme. CM has also instructed that everyone in the State should have the facility of free eye tests and for all who required the spectacles and medicines are to be supplied free of cost. If necessary for those who require operations are also to be done free of cost. The CM said, that, the department should make necessary arrangements to keep ready the required staff, medical equipment, vehicles, spectacles and medicines.
The CM held a review meeting on “KantiVelugu” programme on Saturday afternoon at Pragathi Bhavan. Principal Secretary Shanti Kumari, Family Welfare Commissioner Vakati Karuna, Arogyasri CEO Manik Raj, Public Health Director Srinivas, Joint Director Motilal, TSMDC MD Venugopal, Superintendent, Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital Ravindar Goud participated.
“The State Government for the first time has decided to conduct free eye tests to all the 3.70 Crore people in the State. Such a massive level programme was not conducted so far. Since the programme is conducted state wide every necessary arrangement shall be made. Every elected representative shall take part in the programme. A schedule has to be drawn for this purpose following meetings with district Collectors and elected representatives. People are to be educated properly and efforts shall be made to see that everyone comes to the Eye Camps for tests” said the CM.
The Officials briefed the CM with regards to arrangements made for organizing eye camps and KantiVeluguprogramme. They told CM that for this purpose all over the State there would be 799 teams and, in each team, there would be a MBBS doctor, Optometrist, ANM and others. Every team will conduct Eye test on an average for 250 persons per day. The officers told the CM that the necessary eye drops, medicines, 34 lakhs spectacles are kept ready and will be dispatched to districts. They said that 114 eye hospitals both private and public are identified for conducting operations.
On conduct of the KantiVelugu Eye Camps the CM made the following suggestions.
• For conducting Eye Tests uninterruptedly even on a rainy day a pucca building like a village school shall be identified.
• The routine medical facilities shall not be hampered on the name of the Eye Tests and due to deputations of the staff. To work in the teams and eye camps the services of unemployed MBBS Doctors to be made use of on a temporary basis. Those who are working in different hospitals are not to be disturbed.
• Large scale campaigning should be done to make people aware of Eye Camps and about the schedule in a particular village. Services of ANMs and Asha workers are to be utilized. Cooperation and help from the local elected representatives shall be obtained.
• Letters from the Health Minister to be addressed to all the elected representative requesting them to participate in the conduct of Eye Camps.
• Two weekend holidays shall be given to the team members participating in the eye camps. For their transport at Government expense vehicles are to be arranged. In view of inadequate stay facility in the villages the team members should be provided with accommodations in the nearby town. For this purpose, in addition to the Govt Guest Houses, the Guest houses under the control of Singareni, Genco, Transco and others should also be made use of. If necessary accommodation may also be arranged in private hotels. In addition, care should be taken for their food like lunch, dinner and breakfast.
• Medicines as well as reading glasses are to be provided immediately for those who require them. For others Doctors advise shall be obtained before distribution of spectacles. At government cost operations are to be done to all those who require either in government or private hospitals.
New Building complex for Sarojini Devi Hospital – CM KCR
The Honourable Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has announced that, the Sarojini Devi eye hospital will be provided with new building complex as well as all types of modern equipment and facilities.
The CM instructed the officials to prepare proposals for this. The CM told them that the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital has a name and popularity Country wide and as such it should have new building complex and all the facilities for providing eye care.
Increase the number of Basti Clinics – CM KCR
The Honourable Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao said, that, the existing Basti Clinics in the twin cities are of immense use to the poor people and hence their number needs to be increased. He said, that, these are to be located in slum areas where poor people live in large numbers.
The CM said Governor also on visiting these clinics has a word of praise of their functioning. CM said that facilities are to be created in the Basti Clinics to provide diagnostic facilities.
