New Delhi: The Supreme Court accepted the suggestions of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) that to have hologram based color stickers on vehicles that indicate the nature of the fuel being used on Monday.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways told the bench headed by Justice M.B Lokur that the light blue hologram sticker will be used for vehicles running for petrol and CNG while stickers like orange color will be kept on diesel vehicles. The bench comprising Justice S Abdul Nazir and Deepak Gupta told the Ministry to implement the use of colorful stickers on vehicles running in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) by September 30.
The Supreme Court also asked Additional Solicitor General ANS Nadkarni, who was representing Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for considering green number plates for electric and hybrid vehicles. The Nadkarni told the bench that the ministry will look into it and take a decision soon.
The advocate Aparajita Singh, who assisting the court in the form of amicus curie in the air pollution matter had suggested to the first bench that color-coded stickers should be used to identify the nature of the fuel used in the vehicle. The court was hearing petitions on air pollution in the Delhi-NCR (NCR).
