The training programme on Grassland Development, Collection of Grass Seed and Herbarium Preparation is inaugurated by P.K. Jha, IFS PCCF & Head of Forest Force, Telangana on 22.9.2018. The training will be held for 02 days i.e. on 22.9.2018 and 23.9.2018. The senior officers of the office of the PCCF, Aranya Bhavan, and of circles ATR, Mahabubnagar, Khammam, Kothagudem, Rangareddy, Hyderabad will be attending on 22.9.2018 and the officers of circles Adilabad, Kawal Tiger Reserve, Warangal, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Medak will be attending on 23.9.2018 up to FRO level.
The training is given by Dr. Muratkar, renowned Grassland Expert & Ecologist from Maharashtra.
The grassland development is taken up for the first time in the state of Telangana by the encouragement of P.K. Jha, IFS, PCCF & Head of Forest Force, Telangana and the Munindra, IFS, APCCF Wildlife.
The P.K. Jha,IFS, PCCF & Head of Forest Force , Telangana has arranged this training in order to improve the grasslands in the forest areas/ Sanctuaries/ Tiger Reserves to improve the fodder availability to the wildlife thereby increasing the prey base for carnivores which in turn will improve the wildlife. It is targeted for at least one grassland in each beat to meet the fodder needs of wildlife.
During the training different practices for grassland development is imparted. Besides this, training is also given in field on identification of grass species which are palatable to wildlife and collection of grass seed. The collected grass seed will be utilised for raising grasslands in other areas. Only the grass which is native to the forest will only be encouraged and will be expanded. In the forest areas non – native grass will not be encouraged. The officers who are attending the training will intern conduct training to all the staff up to FBO level in respective districts/ divisions.
The training started with lecture and PPT by Dr. Muratkar renowned Grassland Expert & Ecologist. The officers are also taken to field visits to some of the grasslands developed in Amrabad Tiger Reserve at Makkaleru, Mallapur and Gundam areas where the field training is given on grass identification and grass seed collection and storage. The P.K. Jha, IFS, PCCF & Head of Forest Force, Telangana, all the Addl. PCCFs of the office of the PCCF, Aranya Bhavan, and officers of circles ATR, Mahabubnagar, Khammam, Kothagudem, Rangareddy, Hyderabad have attended the training on 22.09.2018.
