The Telangana State has been adjudged as the Best State in Promoting Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities under “National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, 2018” by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. This award is given in recognition to the services extended by the State Government in overall development of Persons with Disabilities. The award will be conferred in an official function by Ministry on 3rd December, 2018 at New Delhi which will be attended by his Excellency Hon’ble President of India.
This is the first National Award for Telangana State under (Best State category) Column No.13 of award copy. The M.Jagadeeswar, IAS, Principal Secretary to Government, Department for Women, Children, Disabled & Senior Citizens and B.Shailaja, Director & Commissioner, Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens has met S.K.Joshi, Chief Secretary to Government in his chambers and informed about the award. Further the details of various programs taken up by Welfare of Disabled and Senior Citizens Department and other line departments for the upliftment of Persons with Disabilities was briefed to the Chief Secretary.
The Chief Secretary appreciating the services offered by all departments for empowerment of Persons with Disabilities expressed immense satisfaction and hope that the same will continue in future with more energy and enthusiasm. Further the Chief Secretary advised to take-up new innovative measures for socio economic development of persons with disabilities.
The Chief Secretary expressed his desire to make special arrangements for persons with disabilities in the forthcoming State Assembly Elections to enable them to exercise their vote with ease.
The primary focus of the State was to take appropriate measures in prevention of the disabilities and early identification and early intervention. Besides this the respective departments have focused to provide Medical and Non-Medical Interventions, therapies, free distribution of Aids and Appliances, Scholarships, Vocational Trainings and skill development, pensions and financial support for entrepreneurship, job opportunities in private sector, marriage incentives
The Right from initial stages i.e., surveys and awareness generation programs to social security the state have adopted multi sect oral combat approach to reach the persons with disabilities.
The New schemes and programmes have been initiated by the Government for the empowerment of persons with disabilities besides modification of the existing schemes from time to time.
The State is moving forward with a specific strategy and constructive plans for providing comprehensive rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities.
