The Mouse deer known as Indian Chevrotain is a small ungulate belonging to family Tragulidae. The conservation breeding centre was started on 03.03.2010 at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad funded by Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi. Initially Forest Department started with a stock of two males and four females. As the breeding centre was provided with congenial, lush green environment and least human disturbance, Mouse Deer breeding made good progress. Mouse Deer breeding is successful for nearly a decade now and sizable population is in captivity at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad. As a part of re introduction Programme 2 males 6 Females were Released in Mrugavani National Park, Chilkur Range of Samshabad Division of Rangareddy district by Indian Forest Service Officers’ Wives Association (IFSOWA) members today. The members of IFSOWA have also celebrated the kartik masam Vana Bhojnam in the park. Smt Sadhna Jha President and Smt. Vinita Dobriyal General Secretary among other members have attended the programme.
The mouse deer will be released initially in an enclosure. Four animals are enclosed in each enclosure keeping in view the reproduction of animals in nature.
