The Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, has received one pair of Giraffe namely Sunny (Male – 3 Years, 9 Months old) and Bubli (Female – 2 Years old) from Zoological Garden, Alipore, Kolkata, West – Bengal. These animals have arrived safely on the late night of 07.03.2019, at Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad. These animals are bought as part of animal exchange between Zoological Garden, Alipore, Kolkata, West – Bengal and Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad.
The Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, has already given the animals i.e., 3 Pairs of Mouse Deer (3 Males : 3 Females), 1 Pair of Jaguar (1 Male : 1 Female) and 1 Pair of Asiatic Lions (1 Male : 1 Female) to Alipore zoo as part of the animal exchange programme approved by The Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi vide F.No. 23-2/2017-CZA (AK)/1004/2017, Dated: 02.06.2017.
These animals were transported by road in specially designed truck and crates. The Veterinary wing comprising of Dr. M.A. Hakeem, Deputy Director (Veterinary), Dr. Navin Kumar, Former Deputy Director, Para – Vet staff and Animal Keepers, Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad along with veterinary staff and animal keepers from Alipore zoo have accompanied all along the journey from Kolkata to Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad. The team started on 04/03/2019 at 09:00 A.M. from Alipore Zoological Garden, Kolkata, West – Bengal, and have made stop at vizag zoo and Eluru forest complex enroute before reaching Hyderabad on 07.03.2019.
The Giraffes will be kept in the quarantine and will not be exposed to any other person other than veterinary staff and animal keepers till the quarantine period of 4 weeks is over. Then the Giraffe pair will be released for public display in newly designed enclosure.
Zoo Park has been brought in the year 2009 and is extremely happy and is out of bond with joy to see its own kind nearly after 10 years.
