Minister for Forest and Environment Participated in the Conference on Forest Landscape Restoration Developing Strategies for Global & National Commitments
A one-day Conference on “Forest Landscape Restoration – Developing Strategies for Global & National Commitments” was organized by Telangana State Forest Department on 22nd November 2019 at Hotel Taj Krishna, Hyderabad.
The Conference was attended by various stakeholders; National Institutions i.e. Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Govt. of India; Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education (ICFRE); Forest Survey of India(FSI); Institute of Forest Biodiversity (IFB); Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI); International Institutions, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), International Union of Forestry Research Organizations (IUFRO); World Resources Institute (WRI), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Officers of Forest Department, Panchayati Raj & Rural Development, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Horticulture Department; Other related Institutions, Non- Governmental Organizations etc.
The A. Indra karan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for Environment Science and Technology and Endowments and Law, Government of Telangana inaugurated the conference. Notable visitors who attended the conference were Dr. Suresh Gairola, Director General, Indian Council of Forests Research & Education, MoEF& GOI; Dr. Subash Ashutosh, Director General, Forest Survey of India, MoEF, GoI;Sri Pankaj Asthana, Inspector General of Forests, NAEB, MoEFCC, GoI; Dr. Vivek Saxena, Country Representative, IUCNIndia, Mr. Varghese Paul, Senior Forestry Advisor, USAIDIndia. Dr.Promode Kant, Director, Institute of Green Economy, Dr. Ruchika Singh, World Resources Institute, Rajeshwar Tiwari, Spl. Chief Secretary, EFS &T Dept., Telangana; Smt. R. Shobha, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF), Lokesh Jaiswal, IFS, Addl. The Conference deliberated upon different National commitments under Biodiversity, Carbon Sequestration, REDD+, Land Degradation Neutrality, Ecosystem Services, Bonn Challenge, Water, Human Wellbeing and Sustainable Development Goals. The latest methodologies and use of technologies in assessment, planning, implementation, monitoring & evaluation will be discussed. Finally, the conference aims to suggest how a comprehensive approach could emerge for preparation of a roadmap for restoration of entire forest landscape in Telangana, duly contributing to Global & National Commitments in collaboration with organizations of National & International repute.
