Warangal: The fire break out in the Rohini Super Specialty Hospital n Monday, It is alleged that the staff of the hospital had not responded in time to rescue the patients from the operation theatre and ICU, resulting in one death. The patient being evacuated from Rohini Super specialty Hospital after a major fire broke out in the building.
Warangal Urban, A fire which broke out in Rohini Super specialty Hospitals at Subedari in Hanamkonda on Monday claimed two life and two others critically. The incident created a panic situation among the inmates of the hospitals, including about 190 patients. But the police and fire personnel, who rushed to the spot soon after the incident, were able to evacuate the patients.
Though the exact cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the short circuit in the intensive care unit (ICU), which is located near the operation theatre, on the second floor of the three-storied hospital building caused the blast of the oxygen cylinders, spreading the fire and thick smoke. Heart patients and patients with pulmonary diseases suffered a lot due to suffocation caused by the smoke.
It is alleged that the staff of the hospital had not responded in time to rescue the patients from the operation theatre and ICU, resulting in the death of a woman aged around 80 years. It is said that some bystanders entered the hospital located on the Kazipet-Hanamkonda road and helped the patients come out of the hospital. However, one J Kumar Swamy, a native of Venkatraopally of Chityal Mandal of Bhupalpally district, and another patient suffered injuries in the incident. Unconfirmed sources said that the condition of the duo was critical.
Meanwhile, some private hospitals demanded the patients to pay cash to get admitted to hospital after they were evacuated from Rohini Hospitals. Traffic has been diverted to take up rescue operations and nearly 300 personnel were involved in the operation. It is said that they had been successful in averting a major mishap and added that nearly 190 patients had been rescued and shifted to other hospitals. “Around 5.15 to 5.30 pm, short-circuit had occurred in the hospital thus causing the mishap,” he added. The top cop, however, denied commenting over the casualties in the mishap. Meanwhile, the relatives of the patients faulted the hospital management for their non-responsive attitude.
The Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari inspected the Operation Theater, where the fire took place. He inquired about the safety of the patients and directed the police to thoroughly investigate the incident. “Once the inquiry is completed, we will be able to ascertain why the fire happened and who is responsible.”
