Ahmedabad: The Congress today invited Patel quota agitation leader Hardik Patel and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani to meet party vice-president Rahul Gandhi during his visit before Assembly polls.
The Rahul Gandhi will participate in the `Navsarjan Gujarat Janadesh’ rally organized by the party in Gandhinagar, where OBC leader Alpesh Thakor will join the Congress. One day after the Congress invited Hardeep Patel and Mevani, the state unit President Bharatsinh Solanki has extended an open invitation to join Patel, Mevani and Thakor in the party so that BJP can be defeated.

The Thakor, leader of OBC Ekta Manch, will join Congress in the rally with his colleagues, Solanki said. During Gandhi’s one-day tour, there is a possibility of meeting with Janata Dal (U) leader Chattu Vasava in Gujarat. The Thakor met Gandhi in Delhi yesterday and later announced that he would soon join the party.
The Congress, which is out of power for 22 years in Gujarat, is going to woo leaders like Hardik Patel, Mevani and Thakor, which are important figures in their respective communities.
