Chennai: The Bar Council of Tamilnadu and Pondicherry have suspended 1,025 advocates on Wednesday that they were unable to enter the All India Bar Examination organized by the Bar Council of India. In a circular addressed to the Chairman / Secretaries of Bar / Advocates Association, Council Secretary C. Rajsekar has said that Bar Council of India has been conducting the All India Bar Examination since 2010.
The Bar Council of India has so far conducted 10 examinations, however, Bar Council of India allowed its newly nominated Advocates to practice for a period of two years from the date of nomination in its meeting held on August 26, 2012. If they fail to clear the All India Bar Examination within a stipulated two-year period, they are not eligible to practice as advocates in any court, tribunal etc. till they take a clear in the examination.
Apart from this, Rajasekhar said that on 3 July 2015, the first Bench of the Madras High Court directed the Bar Council to suspend the advocates who have not cleared the All India Bar Examination within a stipulated two year period.

They are not eligible for any benefit under the ‘welfare fund scheme’ and bar associations / advocates are not entitled to vote in the election of the Association, in which they were admitted.
Therefore, we have informed all the members of the Bar that if a lawyer, who practices as an advocate even after this notice without passing the All India Bar Examination, the Bar Council will take action against them without any further notice.
