Mumbai: The Massive fire broke out at the Trade House building in the Kamala Mills campus in Lower Parel, Mumbai in ‘1 Above’ restaurant, 14 people died and about 16 were injured, On Friday.
The deceased, Khushbu Mehta Bhansali 28-year- old, who was celebrating 28th birthday with her family and friends. The Khushbu’s grandfather, Babu Lal Mehta said that about 20 to 25 members of his family were celebrating her birthday, two of which were trapped and died due to suffocation, including Khushbu. The Mehta alleged that if Khushabu had received immediate medical care than he could be saved.
My granddaughter was celebrating her 28th birthday today. She was married. The restaurant had a bamboo structure on a roof that could easily catch fire. There were no fire extinguisher or any equipment in this restaurant to cease fire. The second victim, who came in ‘1 Above’ for the Birthday of Khushbu was a 21-year-old Kinjal Shah.
The deceased Dhaiya Lalani 26-year-old and Vishwa Lalani 23-year-old, the Two brothers from US who were on a Holiday in Mumbai also died in the Kamala Mills fire. According to a report, the two brothers were also present at 1 Above with their aunt, Pramila and some other friends.
After the fire, two of them went back to save their aunt. Firemen located the bodies in washroom along with their aunt and some others. One of the survivors said that about 100 to 120 people were on the floor when there was a fire.
Among the casualties, 11 women were involved, most of whom were 20 years old and initially 30 years old. According to witnesses, the body was recovered near the woman’s Washroom. The police believe that death due to suffocation.
