Ranchi: RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was sentenced to a three-and-a-half-year in a jail by a special CBI court on Saturday in a fodder scam case relating to fraudulently withdrawal amount of Rs.89.27 Lakh from the “Deoghar Treasury” 21 years back.
The CBI Judge Shivpal Singh, who had convicted Prasad, along with 10 others on December 23, had also imposed a penalty of Rs 10 Lakh on him for two cases in the scam. The CBI counsel, said that for each case, he was fined Rs. 5 Lakh, failing which he would serve another six months in jail.
The court had convicted Prasad with criminal conspiracy under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act for the offenses of cheating. The Judge Shivpal Singh, through video conferencing, pronounced the quantity of punishment for Lalu Prasad Yadav and other accused persons.
Addressing the media after the court verdict, Lulu’s son and former deputy chief minister of Bihar Tejaswi Yadav said that the party (RJD) will take a step in the high court after studying the sentence and applying for bail.
The Lalu’s son Tej Pratap said, “We are confident that he (Lalu Prasad Yadav) will get bail. We have full faith in the judiciary and we will not bow down.”
