Hyderabad: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to Telangana and Central Information and Broadcasting Ministry due to lack of sexual harassment of women in the Telangana Film Industry and lack of grievance redressal mechanism in the industry.
The NHRC has considered its own censorship and taken suo motu cognizance on the media reports that women in the Telugu film industries are sexually exploited. This issue was raised by Television Anchor Sri Reddy who now works in Telugu films. The Commission has issued notice to the Chief Secretary of the Telangana Government, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has sought detailed report within four weeks in this case.
The Commission found that issues raised by the Telugu actress demand action on the part of the state government in form of a committee to address and solve the complaints of sexual harassment of women artists and women employees at the workplace by the state government, in this case of Telugu film industry.
The actress had performed a half naked protests outside the Film Chamber of Commerce, and an angry MA not only rejected her accusations, but also declared that she would not be given membership under any circumstances. In the early press conference, the chairman of MAA Shivaji Raja announced the lift of ban on Sri Reddy and said that the artist is allowed to work in a Telugu film.
