Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence Directorate (DR) at Shamshabad Airport on Sunday caught a man for smuggled gold after turning it into a paste. The DRI Officials seized 1,850 gms of paste from the passenger.
That, According to DRI officials, the passengers reached SpiceJet flight SG 1314 from Madurai. Upon checking his luggage, the officials found him taking two packages containing the paste. In further examination, officials found that the paste had 1,120 grams gold worth Rs. 34.57 lakh.
The passenger was assigned with the task of reclaiming gold paste during the domestic race of the flight; it was smuggled from Colombo to Madurai and concealed in the aircraft by his associate in the plane. It was done to avoid the customs inquiry at an international airport, “said a DRI official.
