The Steps to ease out traffic congestion in the IT hub of the city, pedestrian friendly measures, construction of skyways and travelators were some of the issues discussed at the first task force meeting on urban mobility held at the metro bhavan today. Chairman G Vivek, Principal Secretary Municipal Administration Arvind Kumar, Metro rail MD N V S Reddy, TSIIC MD Narasimha Reddy, L&T CEO and other officials attended the meeting.
Mr. Vivek observed that the task force should focus on the future transport needs of the city. A good public transport which is non polluting and which would ensure seamless travel and last mile connectivity should be formulated. Mr Arvind Kumar said that an integrated comprehensive approach for urban mobility should be formulated. There should be coordination among all the various departments such as TSRTC, Metro Rail, TSIIC, he said. Other initiatives like multi level car parking, smart parking, skywalks, sidewalks and other pedestrian facilities were also discussed at the meeting. Mr NVS Reddy informed the members that daily four lakh people commute to work in the IT hub and hence there is an urgent need to take remedial measures before it becomes too late. It was also decided to regularly meet once a month probably on the last Saturday to expedite the process of finding an everlasting solution to the traffic problems in the IT hub of the city.
