The U.S. Consul General, Katherine B. Hadda, on Tuesday, November 20th, 2018, addressed over 300 trainee civil servants who are undergoing 93rd Foundation Course atDr MCR HRD Institute, Government of Telangana. The theme of her presentation was “Global Partnership Between the United States and India – The Two Largest Democracies”.
While addressing the trainee civil servants, Consul General Hadda said: “We are witnessing a time in which the partnership between the United States and India is ever more important”. Continuing her address, she stated that the US-India relationship is not just a bilateral relationship and added that the relationship has got global ramifications for peace, prosperity, and stability, far beyond the reaches of the Subcontinent. “And as the two largest democracies in the world, our partnership remains an exceptional inspiration to people and communities the world over”, she added.
While congratulating the trainee civil servants for taking up an important role in the development of India, the Consul General said: “Each of you will have an opportunity in your careers to contribute to the strengthening of the U.S.-India relationship, and I thank you for that, and welcome you to work with us”. Replying to a question from the trainee civil servants, Consul General Hadda said “The U.S.-India partnership is rooted in shared democratic values and a commitment to a rules-based order. We support India’s emergence as a leading global power and as a key partner in our efforts to ensure that the Indo-Pacific is a region of peace, stability, and growing prosperity.”
In response to a question concerning the commonalities between the United States and India, Consul General Hadda said: “One aspect of Indian democracy that fascinates Americans is the sheer size of the electorate and the mammoth exercise that is carried out every five years to hold a free and fair election. This, along with India’s cultural pluralism, and its vibrant and independent institutions like the judiciary and free press, are some of the parallels that have brought our two great nations together”.
